The Motorola Talkabout MH230R two way radio is a great general purpose radio. With its distinctive yellow faceplate and ergonomic design, it is made to be easy to locate and use. This radio is great for emergency preparedness kits, as a set of backup radios, and for use on camping trips.
The Motorola MH230R is compatible with all FRS/GMRS radios. It supports 22 channels and 121 privacy codes per channel with up to 23 miles of range in ideal conditions (up to around 2 miles in urban conditions). The MH230R also has support for NOAA weather channels.
Other features include channel scan, low battery alert, iVOX hands-free use, Mini-USB charging port, and Motorola's Quiet Talk function. This value pack includes two Motorola MH230R radios and a dual pocket desk charger with NiMH rechargeable batteries!

Large print says up to 24 miles.....Small print says up to 1 mile with clear opening meaning no trees etc. But it's my fault as I should have read the small print prior to buying.

Bought a bunch of these to use during a grade school drama production, they work perfectly with the ear buds and the motorola headsets. An inexpensive solution for total back stage communications.

Good shipping, good package. review by Tommy on 2/14/2012

The distance is still unknow, I haven't test it yet, could be good when use in rural area. FRS is limited to 0.5Watt output power due to FCC law. In Taiwan, it could up to 1 Watt when use FRS. while GMRS is not allowed in Taiwan. The bottom line, at least the GMRS part is up to 1 watt, so it should reach a little more range than FRS in 0.5watt.
