The MR356R comes with a set of bonus earpieces with boom microphones! They are great for hands-free use!

The Motorola MR356R two way radio set includes two repeater capable MR356R GMRS radios, a desktop charger and rechargeable batteries. The Talkabout MR356R two way radio offers great power, providing up to 35 miles of range in ideal conditions (typically up to 2 miles in urban conditions).

With 22 channels, 8 GMRS repeater channels, and 121 privacy codes, you will have the communication functionality needed. Add to this the Motorola Quiet Talk filter and Interference Eliminator for even more interruption free use. The MR356R has NOAA Weather Channels with Alert Feature and hands-free iVox functionality. You can even change the call tones to animal sounds.

One of the better features of the MR356R radio is that it has large sized buttons and controls so you can easily use the radio while wearing gloves. The MR356R is compact, with a backlight orange display, and LED flashlight all in a Realtree AP HD Camo pattern case.

Motorola MR356R two way radio is fully repeater capable. This means they will work with a repeater (sold separately) to greatly extend range from just a few miles up to 20 or more.

Other features include Motorola's VibraCall silent vibrating alert. The MR356R also has an emergency alert. Pressing the alert button sends out an alert signal and a spoken message to other radios.

The Motorola MR356R value pack comes with two MR356R two way radios, earpieces with boom mics, mini-USB charger, dual desktop charger, AC adapter, and two NiMH batteries.

  2. Specifications missing review by James on 7/5/2012

The following comments are applicable to all hand held UHF (Ultra High Frequency) transceivers. Used as a wireless intercom within the building or in neighboring buildings it works fine, but the range is limited to line of sight and the theoretical maximum range is line of sight in a vacuum, like in space. It does penetrate most walls, but at a sacrifice of range. Expect about ten percent of the advertised range when you can see each other. If you are hiking in the hills, you will loose contact when you start down the other side of the hill even if you are within shouting distance. Missing specification: ERP (Effective Radiated Power) at the various power levels of the radio. or RF (Radio Frequency) power and antenna gain at the various power levels of the radio. In my humble opinion, I would get the license and try to find a GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) radio without the FRS (Family Radio Service) option that requires a fixed antenna. Then a higher gain antenna could be attached to the radio to improve the ERP which will extend the effective range. Features I would like to see: field adjustable squelch GMRS only radio (must be licensed to use) able to access to GMRS repeaters all transmitter and receiver specifications GMRS repeaters are becoming more numerous and having a repeater capable radio is certainly a major bonus. Unfortunately, most GMRS radios are unable to use repeaters. I will not purchase a GMRS radio that is unable to access a repeater. If you often trek in wilderness areas, consider setting up a GMRS repeater for your group.

  3. 35 Mile range? Good Luck! review by Steve, The Drummer on 7/8/2011

Heres another radio claiming to have a 35 mile capibility. There is no RF power output listed in the specs, but what can it, be running on 3 AA batteries. My guess is 500mw or 1/2 a watt. Yes, it is possible but do'nt count on it. I've talked half way across the world on 5 watts, but that was HF and multiple "HOPS". UHF is strictly Ground Wave and My guess is that you'll see no more than a quarter mile reliably. This radio is supposed to be Reapeater Capible, and if so, you should see a lot farther communications than 35 miles. Providing your in range of a repeater.

  4. Disappointed review by Dan on 1/28/2011

Units are constructed well with quality controls. However, the range was terrible. In a small (flat) town we lost contact in a 1/2 mile. These are simply not usable or returnable after the package has been opened. Even though they label these, 35 mile range under "optimum" conditions, I still believe that is misleading to consumers. One would expect atleast 5 miles in town...
