Midland GXT5000 - Discontinued

Thumbnail image for GXT5000-Pack.jpg
The Midland GXT5000 has been officially discontinued. This model was first available in April of 2011 and was the only "business quality" GMRS radio available by a major manufacturer. They sold rather well at first, but after just a few months of availability the factory (in Thailand) where they are manufactured was damaged by flooding and we were told to expect a considerable delay before more product would ship.

Last year we were told that things were looking up and that we could expect the GXT5000 to return "within a month or two". Two months quickly became three, four and five, and today we learned that Midland is dropping this product from their catalog entirely. If we see another business grade GMRS radio from them it will have a different model number and likely differ from the GXT5000.

Anyone that had a backorder with us for a GXT5000 will receive an email or a phone call soon asking if you would prefer we cancel the order or ship a different product. This is unfortunate news, but we do thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

Max, this is an old article. The Midland GXT5000 has since been back in production and is currently available at Buy Two Way Radios. You can read our later post about its return.

I contacted Midland and they stated that the GXT5000 is NOT discontinued. The radio is now being made in China.

Hi Ralph, the information came from Midland. They have not updated their web site in awhile.

The GXT5000 is still on the Midland website. Are you sure it's been discontinued?

Hi Tom, we share your frustration regarding the GXT5000, however it's not our call. We are a retailer. We don't manufacture the radios. Where the radios are produced is up to Midland. Apparently the demand for a professional quality GMRS radio was not high enough for Midland to justify the cost of starting up production again, so they decided not to pursue it. Unfortunately, there's not a lot we can do about that.
As for the Captcha, the system is necessary to prevent spammers, and even with it in place we still receive a small amount spam daily from the comment queue. If it wasn't in place, it would be a lot worse. we receive a lot of feedback and comments and I don't recall anyone having issues reading it, however if it does become a common issue with other commenters we will certainly re-evaluate it. We appreciate the feedback!

Is Thailand the only country in the world that can build this radio???? Give me a break. I'm sure you can get China to make them and have them shipped out in a few months or better yet start making them in the USA. Also for your ?Re Captcha security thing on the bottom here sucks... I have tried 4 times and it keeps saying I typed the wrong words. Great System guys... Can't read the second word it's so distorted.
