Radio 101 - How To Reset a Motorola RDX Series Radio

Do you need to reset your Motorola RDX Series two way radio back to its original settings? In this episode of Radio 101, Anthony from Buy Two Way Radios will show you how. This method works for both display and non-display models in the RDX series, including the Motorola RDX RDU2020, RDV2020, RDU2080d, RDV2080d, RDU4100, RDU4160d and RDV5100 business two way radios.

I have two older RDU4100 that I was trying to reprogram to match the newer RDU4100's I just purchased. The only thing I changed was the channel frequencies and now the older radios just make a low beep when depressing the talk button. I tried to check to make sure I didn't accidently adjust any other settings and now the software cannot connect to the older radios and gives an error message that the memory is corrupted and I should return them to the manufacturer. I could see accidently hitting one of the other settings on one of the radios but I'm skeptical that I did it for both of them. Have I seriously donked these up or is there a solution?

Hi Alex, the Motorola RMU2080d cannot be cloned with other brands and model series of radios, because cloning refers to either physically or wirelessly connecting two or more radios together to transfer the programming information directly between them. My guess is that you want to find a smaller radio that can be programmed to the same channel number(s) and frequency(ies) as the RMU2080d. In that case, there a number of business radios on the market that may work, with some caveat. Some of them may even work "out of the box" so to speak, depending on how the RMU2080d is programmed by your company. The article Radio Compatibility: Which Models Will Work Together provides a little more information on business radio compatibility. If your company is just using default frequencies and did not customize the programming of their radio, this compatibility chart may also help. No. The Motorola Talkabout T5820 is a consumer radio and the RMU2080d is a business radio. Although they both operate on the same band, the radios cannot be physically cloned to one another.

I have six Motorola RDV2020. When I bring them into the living room they all flashes orange. Then when I walk out of our living room, it goes back to flashing red. Is our living room under some kind of Alien invasion?

You may need to contact Motorola for details and procedures for those models.

Hi there. By any chance have you dealt with Motorola XTNi radios? They look a lot like the RDX series but they are PMR446 radios. Do you know if these series of radios can be reflashed like the classical analog HT radios with a RIB and flashing adaptor? Thanks a lot!

Hi Jim, chances are if there is a reset option, it probably won't resolve your issue, because from what you describe the radios are likely all programmed to different frequencies and/or PL tones. The AXU4100 was dealer programmable. If you need them all on a specific frequency, you will probably need to have them re-programmed. If you contact us we may be able to further assist.

I have 4 AXU4100 Motorola radios all communicate but not with each other is there a way to set them to factory default so they will all communicate together.
    Thanks

Hi Monteen, It depends. Is the orange light solid or is it blinking?

I have a set of Motorola RDV2020 radios however they are not receiving from one end of my school building to the other. At times, when I try to send, an orange light appears, instead of red. I'm not sure of the age of these, but am wondering if they can be fixed or if they need a new battery. (Is it cost-prohibitive to just by a new battery?)

Hi Alejandro, the LED normally stays solid red while in transmit or receive mode. It could happen if the radio is stuck in one of those two modes or if the PTT button is damaged or shorted. Did anything happen to the radios prior to your repair? Were they dropped or immersed in water?
