You asked CB or Ham. I live in San Diego county California. I frequently monitor CB radio and find there is nothing out there. Very rarely is anyone using CB, except for some crazy guy in my local area on CB channel 6.The traffic out there is mostly in Spanish. I have also taken several trips from San Diego to Vancouver B.C. Again not a lot of traffic. Some truckers talking but then they mostly speak Spanish.
Ham radio however is much more interesting. Regular people talking about all kinds of stuff. Repeaters are very active and you can even hear some stuff on simplex, 146.52. Then add Echolink and you can talk to the world on a handheld or on your smartphone. I recently checked into a Railroad Net using Echolink and talking on a repeater in Wisconsin using my android smartphone.
So to wrap it up I don't have any real use for CB. Give me a HT or a smartphone with the Echolink app.
