What to do if CHIRP does not list your radio

UPDATE: As of November 10, 2022, CHIRP now supports the KG-935G! Download the latest daily build of CHIRP here.

CHIRP is a free, open source application created by a team of volunteer amateur radio operators. The software is used to program a wide variety of different makes and models of two way radios with a computer.

When programming certain models of two way radios purchased from Buy Two Way Radios, some of our customers, particularly those who are ham radio operators, prefer CHIRP in lieu of the programming software provided by the radio manufacturer. This preference for CHIRP is largely due to a couple of reasons. CHIRP is often easier to understand and use than the original programming software from the manufacturers of certain radios, particularly those in China. The use of CHIRP also often minimizes or even eliminates the need to install and use a different programming application for each individual product when using a mix of of different radios.

CHIRP supports an impressively wide selection of radios, but not all of them. The list is expanding over time. When a new product is introduced to the market, depending on its popularity and relevance, The CHIRP project team may add support for the new model in a future version or build of the software.

We often receive calls from customers who request tutorials, tech support or other instruction for CHIRP. Although we do include CHIRP as a free add-on with a few select programming cables, we do not support it ourselves, as it isn't ours. It was created by a community of ham radio operators, and relies on the community to support it. We merely provide the application as a courtesy to our customers who may need or want it.

As of November 2020, CHIRP supports the following radios we currently sell or previously carried:

The next generation of CHIRP is CHIRP-Next, and includes support for some radios that may not be supported by the legacy CHIRP. Radios supported by CHIRP-Next are bold in the list above.

If your radio is currently listed in CHIRP or CHIRP-Next, you should be good to go. If your radio is not listed, download the latest daily build of CHIRP or the latest daily build of CHIRP-Next.

If the latest build of CHIRP does not list your radio, CHIRP does not currently support it. The CHIRP programming team does accept requests for support of new radios. You can submit a request to the CHIRP project and ask them to add the radio to a future version or build of CHIRP.

Hi Pedro, we do not carry the UVk5 and have no information on it. As stated in the article and in the many of the other comments, we are not the developers of CHIRP and are not affiliated with them. It's not our application, so we offer no official support for it. If you want the new CHIRP software to run on a 32-bit PC, you will need to contact the CHIRP project team directly with your request.

As mentioned in the article and numerous times in the comments, you will need to check the supported radio models on the CHIRP home page to find out if your radio is listed. If not, you can contact them on their web site to request that it be added in a future release.

Could it be possible to request for ICOM IC-F2000 with CHIRP?

    Reply
    • Rick

The Icom IC-F2000 is a business radio and requires specific programming software from the manufacturer. CHIRP focuses primarily on amateur radios. Again, as mentioned in the article and numerous times in the comments, if you want CHIRP to support a specific make and model radio, you would need to contact the CHIRP development team directly, as it is their software. We are not affiliated with CHIRP.

Could you put the baofeng BF-H6 radio on programming software

    Reply
    • Rick

Hi Eric, we are unable to do so for two reasons. First, we do not carry the Baofeng BF-H6, so we have no information on it. Second, CHIRP is not our program and we have no affiliation with the CHIRP development team. You would need to contact them directly. The link to their site is in the last paragraph of the article above.

I would download the actual programming software from Wouxun and upload a fresh program. Chirp doesn’t have access to all the menu settings on the Kg-UV9P I own.

I feel for you all, and applaud your patients. Most of these comments are asking for you to add support for a radio model, despite you saying in the article that you do not have any control over Chirp.

Please support the radio model of Huntec H-98 and 3688 because the CTCSS of my two radios are different. Or suggest me how can I change from CTCSS 100.0 to 67.0? Thanks a lot. Looking forward to your response. You are really GREAT! Solving a lot of problems of radio users.

Hi Peter, we appreciate the kind feedback, however we are not the developers of CHIRP. It supports some of the radios we sell, but it's not our app and we are not affiliated with the CHIRP project. You will need to contact the CHIRP development team to request support for your radio in CHIRP.

I just got a Baofeng BF-x3Plus radio. You can use the Baofeng BF-A58S to program the x3Plus radio. The radio is a triple Band 2M and 1 1/4 and 70cm band. The BF-A58S works just fine.
