  1. Easy to use, and simple to understand. review by Kim on 8/5/2018

Certainly I don't think anyone can complain about the price of this package. Is the radio basic? Well, not really. It can do quite a few things some of the more expensive raidos can. After having my unit for several weeks, and spending the time needed to program, and understand it's functions, it has been a great rig. Immediately I purchased a vertical dual band 20' antenna to mount on my tower, but have not had the time to mount it. Even with the mag antenna, I have been able to hit all the repeaters I wanted. I like the fact I can move this unit from my truck, to the house. Just wish it can with 2 sets of power wires, but found another locally. The power supply works great, and is very simple. The display on the radio is great. I programed my favorite frequencies, and set up a scan list easily. It scans fast, and there are 3 setting on the scan feature. I think if you are good with a computer and understand the basics of Ham Radio, you can get this radio up and running in about 30 minutes. I just got my licence about 7 months agos, and thought this was a great addition to some of my handhelds. There are some really great videos on this unit on YouTube as well. You can't go wrong in my opinion. Very happy with my purchase.

  2. Sweeeeet! review by WyldDog on 4/18/2018

Brand new to ham radio here. But from what I see, this will have me up and running in no time. Unboxing, and setup took about 15 minutes. When I told a friend what I was buying, they tried to get me to go to another site for a cheaper radio. I looked, and it had basically none of the features this had. It was single band which I felt would limit me more than I wanted. I looked close to make sure. I shopped around a LOT. Nothing could come close to comparing to the features, or price of this one. It looks nice. It doesn't take up much space on my desk. ( a big issue for me) And after looking over the controls, I really think I will be adapted to the operation of this unit fairly quick. Everything is straightforward, in plain English. I am looking forward to a many, many hours of enjoyment from this radio. The website is easy to use, and it describes this unit perfectly.

  3. Would Not Buy This Particular Package review by Terry on 4/14/2018
    Rating

The idea of the package is great however, the Wouxun radio is not one I would select again. TX and RX actually seems to work well. Scans fairly fast but does not stop on most signals unless they are particularly prolonged Frequencies that it scans for RX is very limited as compared to other radios. I have to see it and stop it myself. The instruction booklet is only basically useful. Buy Two Way Radios however, were very good to deal with and I would do business with them again. I just picked the wrong radio.

  4. Great combination review by KofNV on 4/2/2018
    Rating

I bought this combo to get something other than a hand held for my base station. It worked great right out of the box. The programming software wasn't very difficult to figure out. I just wish I could have imported a *.csv file but that wasn't really a problem. I get good signal reports from my local rag chew nets. I'm pleasantly surprised with the sound quality in FM (broadcast) radio receive mode.

  6. I am really happy with this kit. Good starter for a new ham. review by Dave on 3/28/2018

Lots of features. Hooked it up and started listening right away. Can't wait to learn more about the radio.

  7. Excellent value review by Larry on 3/7/2018
    Rating

As a new ham technician, this package supplied everything I needed to get on the air without all the confusion of which antenna to pick, etc. Has excellent reception and my signal reports have been great. Fairly straight forward menu system. The only change I would recommend is to purchase the RT Systems software and programming cable. The Wouxun software is somewhat lacking and their cable driver seems to work at its own convenience.

  8. Great Basic Setup for a new Ham like me! review by Hoser on 2/23/2018

Easy setup and once you get used to the program software it's a snap to load in your favorite frequencies.

  10. Great Little Radio review by Just Sayin' on 6/28/2017
    Rating

I bought this starter kit as my first ham radio. I was advised not to go out and buy the cheaper handheld radios due to lack of power. I am not disappointed. I have the magnetic-mount antenna stuck to the top of my washing machine and have been able to hit my radio club's repeater 15 miles away using only 10 watts. Lots of settings I have yet to learn how to use.The only negative feedback is that I find the voice prompt very difficult to understand.(Chinese woman TRYING to speak English). Overall, this has been one of my all-time best investments

  11. Good little radio for the money. Excellent starter kit. review by Len on 9/8/2016
    Rating

Bought for training of new ham. As a basic package, it works fine. Antenna is useless unless you are right next to your contact, use a Slim Jim and I get decent kick. Package should contain a better antenna option so new users won't think that the radio isn't working. Has some features I don't prefer, but nothing is perfect.

  12. Solid and Performs Great! review by Sean the Ranger on 7/8/2016
    Rating

This was my first mobile basestation purchase, and the parts together are definitely worth the cost as you can't purchase them apart at that cost. This is a great starter kit for VHF/UHF operations, and it also works well to scan and monitor emergency response and informational channels. This is a great little rig to put on your desk top and one that I am going to incorporate in a Go Box for events or emergency use.

  13. well worth it. review by Obed on 3/10/2016
    Rating

I bought this radio because of the low price. I intended to put a radio in my office and did not want to spend a ton. I was actually quite surprised at how good the radio looks, how well it sounds and how well it works. I have several other radios that cost 3 times as much and this compares very favorably. The power supply in this package is small and lightweight and works very well too. I did not use the antenna that came in the package as I put a vertical on the roof of the building. I would not only recommend this as a good economical package for a now operator, but would say that it performs as well as the better known, more expensive brands out there.

  14. Great dual band radio. review by Eugene R on 10/27/2015
    Rating

Very well built radio. Excellent sound quality, loud speakers and very precise volume control (from very low to very high level). Good noise filtration. Well built menus and controls, all you need to control the radio is the DTMF speaker/mic (included with radio) in your hand that gives you access to all the functions. Programming is also very easy and the programming software is well made. The mic has good sensitivity and gain so you don't have to get too close to it, you can talk while holding it 4"-6" away from your mouth and have crystal clear transmission of your voice. For the price this radio is sold for, the features and quality that it offers - it's an excellent buy.

  17. Excellent Starter Kit review by John J on 4/30/2015
    Rating

This Kit allowed me to be on the air in a matter of minutes. The included software and programming cable are superb. The mobile antenna is adequate. The Power Supply is quiet and is spot on with power delivery after checking it with a multimeter. The radio performs well, has good sound and features. The only con that I can say is that this radio will pick up some pops and noise on certain frequency combinations. Not a big deal, but noticeable. Would purchase again.

  18. Great Deal Package for any Ham review by Page7x on 11/27/2014

Works great out of the box. I use it as a base with the Tram 1185 on a cookie sheet and can hit repeaters several miles away with no issue. Radio is easy to program with the supplied items. I am an Extra and did A LOT of research and price comparisons and ended up purchasing this kit at this website.

  20. Good Radio review by KB2TZD on 11/25/2014
    Rating

I am using this for an EOC base radio with an Arrow OSJ 144/440. One of the best things is the reception and the amount of actual power on High setting. It was putting out about 60w on High. On the other hand, the Lower power setting was less than spec'ed out. Actual wattage was about 7w. I was still able to work all of our local repeaters.
