Easy too use
The backup crank power and good range with clear line of sight has made this a very fun and functional radio. The ability to take the unit camping and charge my smartphone has already gave me ample return on my investment. I now have two of these, yes this product is that good. The only drawback is that I have experienced slightly low batter life but hey with the ability to crank back to a charge it is a mute point.
I had hoped to use this as a real base camp radio coupled with Midland GXT handsets. The handsets are awesome, well made, with long life battery packs. The base camp radio is flimsy, very lightweight, and can be broken easily. The battery pack that I ordered with it has to be charged a lot and the charge time is long. One can not depend on this sorry piece of equipment for my application unless you have a power plug that you can keep it plugged into. I am a long way from any power other than the plugs in my truck but with the battery recovery time, this radio would spend most of it's time plugged into the truck and not where it should be, in camp.
Nice to know I will not be out of touch in a power outage.
