The Cobra microTALK CXR825 two way radio has great features in a very compact size. The CXT825 has a maximum range of 30 miles in ideal conditions (up to one mile in urban conditions). It has 22 GMRS/FRS channels and 142 privacy codes and it comes with a lithium ion battery.

The CXR825 has some great features including VOX hands free operation, VibrAlert® silent paging, backlit display, NOAA weather alerts, scan feature, selectable roger beep, 10 call tones, and a key lock.

Cobra states that the CXR825 is the "world’s most compact high-powered GMRS/FRS radio". It does have a very small frame, making it very easy to carry in your pocket. It will also take up very little room in a backpack or in an emergency kit.

The CXR825 comes standard with rechargeable high capacity lithium ion batteries. The CXR825 is one of the few GMRS radios with a Li-ion battery. This gives them a longer talk time than radios that use NiMH batteries so there is less recharging!

The Cobra microTALK CXR825 value pack comes with two CXR825 radios with attached belt clips, Li-ion batteries, two-port desktop charger, AC adapter, and owner's manual.

  1. Excellent Communications Multiplier review by US Coast Guard Auxiliary Guy on 1/28/2016
    Rating

I am the Corresponding Secretary of the Glynn County (Georgia) Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). I purchased these radios for evaluation as a communications multiplier to be used by citizen volunteers and agencies. The concept is that a sworn first responder with an agency radio would be able to communicate with unsworn local emergency volunteers equipped with these units in and around a hazard site thus multiplying the effectiveness of agency communications without having to buy more expensive units.

  2. Excellent skier's radio review by Nigel on 4/13/2013
    Rating

Bought a pair of these because my wife complained about the size of out other radios ... she was much happier with one of these in her pocket, and for our main use (skiing) the worked very well. Battery life was fine, and we had no problems communicating through trees and other mountain features (although we didn't attempt to cover any major distances). Found that we had to turn the volume all the way up and of course take our gloves off to use them, but that seems normal. Bumped into other skiers with exactly the same radios, so they must be popular!
