Rating

The Tram 1153(S) mobile antenna with the spring is a fine performing antenna. The whip is .118 diameter which performs better than those with the .100 whips. To make this antenna perform the best across the entirety of the 2 Meter band, and also because of the spring, I cut the whip to 45 inches, which gave the best overall SWR across the band. If someone were to purchase this same antenna without the spring, the whip would need to be 4 inches longer at 49 inches for the best performance across the 2 Meter band. i have owned three 1153S antennas with a 5 inch NMO magnetic mount. Two I gave away and purchased a new one to replace those previously owned.

This antenna when used with magnetic base on top of vehicle will give when hit by tree limbs while those without spring will be knocked off vehicle.

I'm sure the antenna will be fine when it is properly timmmed, They just did not send me a trim chart with the antenna.. Why You ask? They don't have them!
