Manufacturer Warranties

In most cases, warranties on two way radios and their accessories are provided by the manufacturer, not by Buy Two Way Radios. Each manufacturer sets its own:

  • Warranty period
  • Coverage terms
  • Service procedures
  • Limitations and exclusions

Because of this, warranty coverage can vary significantly from one product to another. Some manufacturers offer longer coverage on radios than on accessories such as batteries, chargers, antennas, or belt clips.

To obtain warranty service, customers are typically required to:

  • Register the product with the manufacturer (if and as required by the manufacturer)
  • Retain proof of purchase
  • Follow the manufacturer’s warranty claim procedures
  • Contact the manufacturer directly for service or support

Buy Two Way Radios 30-Day Return and Replacement Policy

While almost all manufacturers handle long-term warranty service directly, Buy Two Way Radios provides limited support for products within the first 30 days after purchase. If you have any problems with your product within 30 days of the purchase date, we will be happy to replace it with a new product of the same model. If you need a replacement unit, complete this form to request an RMA number. We will issue the RMA number and provide information on how to return your defective product. After this 30-day period, all warranty service is handled directly through the manufacturer. Please read our Returns and Exchanges Policy for terms and conditions before requesting an RMA.

Warranty Coverage Varies by Manufacturer

Warranty terms are not standardized across the industry. A typical manufacturer warranty may include:

  • Radio unit: 1 year or more coverage
  • Accessories: 90 days to 1 year coverage
These or similar terms are commonly found in warranty agreements. However, they can differ greatly depending on the manufacturer or product. Always review the specific warranty documentation included with your product for exact details.

What a Warranty Does and Does Not Cover

A manufacturer’s warranty generally covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. It does not cover:

  • Misuse or abuse
  • Unauthorized modifications or repairs
  • Use with non-approved accessories
  • Physical damage (drops, impacts, etc.)
  • Water or environmental damage (unless explicitly stated)
  • Normal wear and tear

Most warranties are also:

  • Limited to the original purchaser
  • Non-transferable
  • Void if serial numbers are altered or removed
  • Void if any factory seals are altered or removed

Warranty vs. Insurance

It is important to understand that a warranty is not insurance.

  • Warranty: Covers defects or damage caused by manufacturing issues
  • Insurance: Covers accidental damage, loss, theft, or unforeseen events
For example:
  • A radio that fails due to an internal defect may be covered under warranty
  • A radio that is dropped, submerged in water, or damaged in an accident is typically not covered
If you require protection against accidental damage or loss, a separate insurance or protection plan would be necessary.

Are Manufacturers Required to Provide a Warranty?

Manufacturers are not legally required to provide a warranty with their products. A warranty is generally offered as a value-added benefit to:

  • Demonstrate confidence in product quality
  • Enhance customer satisfaction
  • Provide assurance against defects
  • Support brand reputation
Because warranties are voluntary, manufacturers have the discretion to define their own terms, limitations, and coverage periods.
