While this radio is easy to use and is compatible with other FRS and GMRS radios, it was designed with power users in mind. It is
more durable, is higher wattage, is equipped with a more powerful battery and has better audio quality than typical consumer radios. It is also IP55 dust and waterproof! Basically, it is built like a business radio.
It also has advanced features that would usually appeal more to "power users," such as the Wireless Channel Cloning
and the ability to use PC programming software to customize the channels list.
Yes, if you use the programming software (available from the Downloads tab). The KG-705F supports up to 99 custom channels, and with the software you can add new channels or even remove standard ones. The CTCSS/DCS tones can be customized for each channel and can be different for transmit and receive.

The KG-705F is designed for maximum cross-compatibility with other Wouxun branded GMRS radios. It uses the same battery pack as the KG-UV9D series radios. It also uses the same 2-pin Kenwood style (K1) audio connector found on many other radios, so headsets, speaker mics and other audio accessories are no problem at all.

Great little programmable frs unit
I really like these frs walkies. My favorite thing is how loud the speaker is! Very loud and good speaker that cuts through background noise very well. One major problem for me about these and the reason these only get 4 out of 5 stars from me is I could not find any option to LOCK the keys or buttons out. Even on cheaper walkies there always seem to be a lock button that one can do a long press on to engage which prevents the channel selector knob from moving or other buttons from accidentally being pressed. So if your going to be putting these in and out of your pockets there is a very good chance you may accidentally change the channel, and if you give them to your kids they will change the channel on accident as well. Once again, a lock button would be really really useful.
Solid build but poor display
I bought these because of the hidden display feature. I already had a pair of the Retevis RT68H with hidden display, which are closely comparable to these units. While not quite as solid build as the Wouxun units, the Retevis units have a much brighter display. The channel display on these Wouxun units cannot be seen outdoors with plain daylight. I wish this could be adjusted. For the price and value, I would stick with the Retevis units going forward.
