The Multi-Use Radio Service is a group of 5 VHF frequencies that can be used by both businesses and consumers without a license at up to 2 watts of power. The Wouxun KG-805M takes full advantage of the allowed 2 watts. All 5 channels are available, with a display that and menu that make the radio simple and easy to use.
Stop using business or amateur radios for MURS. The Wouxun KG-805M Basic is FCC approved specifically for MURS use, so its use is completely legal!
Support for PC programming is not necessary, but is available. Some features can be customized using the optional programming software (free download) such as adding or removing channels or customizing the channel name, bandwidth, or transmit power. Support for up to 128 channels is provided, and receive-only channels can be added for any frequency in the 134-170 MHz range (including NOAA weather channels).
The KG-805M features 5 MURS channels with channel scan, and adjustable squelch. The KG-805M Basic has built in a lighted LCD display with three backlight color options. Backlight colors can be customized based on transmit, receive or standby. The front panel keys are also backlit and voice prompts assist you with menu navigation.
Want more features? 76-108Mhz FM radio, transmit overtime alarm, low voltage prompt, channel name edit and display, and VOX (Voice Operated Transmit) for hands-free operation are all standard on this radio.
The 805M Basic is also rated IP55 water resistant, a plus when taking it with you outdoors.

of 5 VHF frequencies at low power (2 watts or less). If your current radios use MURS, then the KG-805M is

The Wouxun KG-805M (and all MURS radios) work great for either business or personal use. The MURS service was designed
with personal use in mind, but nothing prohibits business use. (In fact, Walmart uses MURS frequencies in their stores.)

There are two versions of this radio, the standard KG-805M and the KG-805M Basic.
The difference is the KG-805M Basic costs less, but doesn't provide the ability to change CTCSS/DCS codes (privacy codes) directly from the radio's menu.
It is possible to use CTCSS/DCS codes on the Basic version, but you must use the programming software to do so.
We think the KG-805M Basic works best for users who always talk within the same group of people and very rarely need to make changes to their channels once they're working. For example, if you're buying radios for your warehouse employees to use at your business, you're probably better off saving a few bucks and getting the Basic. If you frequently meet up with new groups of people for paintball, you should get the standard version.

Great radios
I bought two of these to test out for special events. They surpassed my expectations. They perform well and the battery holds up. If you are looking for good license free radios, you have found them.
Comercial quality at a very reasonable price.
Very tough radio with a very nice price. We are replacing some Older Dakota Alert handhelds, I chose to buy the KG-805M as a test and... I'm not disappointed with the quality and performance of this little radio, it does everything I need for our family farm. The construction is solid like a tank when compared to the much fragile Baofeng MURS. Another good point is this radio is fully compatible with Dakota Alert base and handhelds radios and it's FCC part 95 accepted wich is a must for me as a Christian and as a Law-abiding person. Thanks.
