Wouxun KG-UV7D High Power Dual Band Amateur Radio

Looks better than my KGUV6D but still a bit wide and bulky for my smaller hands. Flimsier case than the newer Wouxun offerings and I'm afraid to drop it. I have set it up as a base radio, but my KGUV8H is much more robust feeling and will be my daily carry radio. Higher power hasn't made much difference in my observation and it might help in fringe areas, but for normal comms, you have to increase power 4X to notice a real difference. it may just run the battery down faster with the extra couple watts, but being a base unit on the charger most of the time, this is a moot point for me. Good buy for the price.

I highly recommend both models. Great sound and TX-RX performance. I also recommend the larger Battery for lasting all day.

I bought this because 6m band is making a comeback due to recent propagation, And thanks to the venerable Baofeng and other dualband handhelds, the 2m/70cm bands and repeaters will be completely saturated during emergencies.
This radio arrived quickly and after programming it with it's CPS, I then used Chirp to program it - and you are able to change the transmit frequencies in Chirp as well. So this thing actually transmits below and above the 6m band - I'm just not sure how much leeway we have (I'm not ruining mine to find out).
The stock antenna isn't that good on 6m, so I bought an Opek antenna which works amazing.
I can now backpack or bike and have connectivity for 40-60 miles away from the repeater depending on altitude.

Got the radio with very fast shipping. Power output measured with a calibrated IFR 2975 monitor shows vhf power 5.4 watts and 6 meter power of 5.3 watts. Wouxun must have given me the wrong band split antenna as the 6 meter performance was very poor. I swapped the antenna that came with the radio with my Icom T-90 antenna and 6 meters worked great. If I actually got the right 2m/6m antenna with the radio, it has very poor performance on 6 meters. Summary is lower power than advertised, very poor antenna. Swap antenna with aftermarket antenna and you have a great working 5 watt radio.

Several folks in our Military Vehicle group either don’t have RT-524 radios or their RT-524 stopped working. The Military radios, Vietnam era and earlier, use the 6 meter band. This KG-UV7d in the 6M frequency works excellent and allows them to communicate with other Military Vehicles in a convoy situation. I’m glad to have found this awesome handheld and glad Wouxun has offered it.

I bought this radio on reviews and Notarubicon on his many reviews on this brand. I am happy with the quality, smart charger and the radio talks and listens very well. great bang for the buck! Works with chirp , easy to program! All function , no useless frills, buy it!

I bought the KG-UV7D with the 6M option. I live about 4 miles from a 6M repeater so this was a no brainer. I can get get into the repeater full quieting from my basement! Solid feel and easily programmed via CHIRP. Highly recommended!

as a portable, it's getting good reports from the local 2m repeater and simplex folks.. also good reports with simplex on 6m (no local 6m repeaters)... that said, I'm easily hitting repeaters 40~60 miles away, when connected to a 6m j-pole mounted on a 25' mast. I'm happy with that.

Good radio but only 5 watts, not 7 watts like advertized. Inside the battery area it says 5 watts. Only 5 watts on my poqer meter roo.

Kind of bummed. Maybe they aent me the wrong radio?
