The KG-UV9P transmits at up to 7 watts UHF and 8 watts VHF with multiple power settings. It features an impressive 999 programmable memory channels with QT/DQT encoding and decoding, DTMF encode/decode and 25KHz/12.5KHz wide/narrow bandwidth selection.

Like the KG-UV9D Plus, the KG-UV9P has multiple levels of operation to maximize your communications over the airwaves. It features true dual band reception, which means you can receive and hear two signals simultaneously on the same or different bands. You can also transmit on one band while you receive on the other at the same time. It also has cross-band repeat, just like the KG-UV9D Plus!
But its multi-function operation doesn't end there. The KG-UV9P has multiple scan capabilities, as well. Priority scan, channel group scan, these are just a given. CTCSS/DCS scanning is a plus. Want a scan feature that's really exciting? With it's dual receive, the KG-UV9P can scan two bands at the same time. Now, that's multi-functional!
The KG-UV9P also keeps the famous Wouxun multi-display. First introduced with the popular KG-UV8D, the large, color screen is also a prime feature of the KG-UV9P, and with some notable improvements. Of course, there is still plenty of room to display all the information needed to operate a multi-function radio on both bands at the same time. Now the display is also adjustable, with five levels of brightness. Customize the settings for your viewing comfort while conserving battery power as needed. Nice dual band!
I bought this for satellite communication. Works great with an Elk Antenna. Nice being able to transmit and receive with this radio without acrobatics! Highly recommended!

Overall an fine radio. Dual simultaneous receive works as advertised. CHIRP will program it, if you tell CHIRP it's a KG-UV9D Plus.
Some minor drawbacks: the display is sharp but small, so bring your reading glasses. The belt clip attaches to the battery pack (not the radio) with screws, so get a clip for each of your spare batteries if you care. The two knobs on top are channel and volume; squelch is a menu item. The voice prompts are in English with a Chinese accent.

Very Nice for the Price
Great little radio. I use it in the truck with a magnetic mount antenna. Plenty of power to hit the local repeaters. Lots of good features. Radio feels very solid in the hand. Programming is a breeze using CHIRP.
Just Getting Started
As a newbie to GMRS (KG-805G) & Ham (KG-UV9P), I combined the reviews and price points, and these were great buys. I struggled a bit with getting Chirp set up correctly, as I am also midstream on preparing for the Technician's Test, but it's now work close to what I had hoped, and I'm sure I will be fine tuning over time.
As a side note, the UV9P came in very handy this weekend when I received notifications via the Colorado Connection network of Repeaters warning that I-70 was closed due to a Fatal Accident, and it save me from sitting in a parking lot for 4 hours waiting on the accident investigation to complete.
I look forward to growing my Ham & Amateur Radio skills.
As a side note, the UV9P came in very handy this weekend when I received notifications via the Colorado Connection network of Repeaters warning that I-70 was closed due to a Fatal Accident, and it save me from sitting in a parking lot for 4 hours waiting on the accident investigation to complete.

Have had some time to set this up using both Chirp and Wouxun programming. It was easier to use Chirp to figure out the set up and then was able to figure out the Wouxun programming after that. My first radio was the Baofeng uv5r5 and feel that this is an upgrade with the higher power and color screen and the additional bands- I am definitely a self taught newbie but I research very intensely before purchasing any product. If you are on the fence as I was, you really can't go wrong buying this radio. I recommend it.!

Great radio and great customer service
I wanted a radio to be able to use as a scanner to monitor local emergency services. Not knowing which radio to go with I contacted buy two way radios and spoke with Taylor. I explained what I was trying to do with the radio and from that point this specific model was recommended. Now I'm still getting used to the functions of the radio but the quality is exceptional and it was able to do everything I needed it to do. I highly recommend the radio but even more than that I recommend this company. Not only are they knowledgeable but they seem to care about the customer figuring out exactly what will work best for them.
