  1. Excellent Radios review by Joe on 4/8/2016

Excellent clarity and range on the ski slope. Experienced zero traffic/interference. I like the added features like the ability to charge via usb and flashlight. Durable, but not too heavy. Battery never dipped below "full" all day. Honestly my friends and I don't know what we did before we had these radios!

  2. lives up to Motorola brand review by walt on 4/27/2015

Much better quality than other brands. larger size fits hand nicely

  3. Talkabout MR350R review by WCarp on 4/20/2015
    Rating

I only used it at short range. Cannot talk longer than one minute. A fully depleted battery will take 14 hours to charge. Charging LED will not indicate if battery is fully charged. Should not leave radio on charger for more than 16 hours or will shorten battery life (has no smart charging capability)

  6. Godd radios but hands free difficult review by Don L on 7/1/2013
    Rating

The radios are well made and work as described with the exception of the hands free modes. They tend to stay activated (in the tranmit mode) once they sense a voice. You can lower the activation sensitivity (only 3 settings) but then they have difficulty in recognizing there is a voice (activating). There needs to be some design improvements for reliable operation in the hands free modes. Other than that range is usually 1 mile or less as with most 2 way radios but they work as well as any other radio in this class.

  7. Stuck on vibrate review by Canootie on 4/14/2013
    Rating

Half the time when turned on the unit is stuck on vibrate and does not function. The other times it goes onto vibrate about 5 minutes later.

I've been using Talkabouts since they first were introducted around 1998 with a two-mile advertized range and were well over a $100.00 per radio. Needless to say, they've come a long way since then. These current radios are reliable, have a good range, of course that's relative, and easy to use. The farest I have been able to reach is about 13 miles and that was a direct line of site with no obstructions from a mountain top at about 3100 feet to a valley floor at about 160 feet. They recently were invaluable during a backpacking trip where we got off trail and was able to make contact with our pick-up point about 2.5 miles away through a forest and over a 500 foot ridge. That contact saved an activation of the local Search and Rescue Team. We use them for car-to-car, car-to-motorcycle, backpacking, mountain biking, hiking, and sking. The extension mics come in very handy especially when wearing gloves. The quality with this Motorola unit has improved greatly over the years but it still has a few drawbacks. Motorola REALLY needs to develop a better belt clip system. Once the plastic part that hooks to a belt or strap bends outward, the clip is useless. Also, same thing when the little plastic tab breaks off that holds the clip to the radio. The clips are then ready for the recycle bin. I've also had bad experiences with the PTT button with older models and once with this model. This happens when the PTT depressed. A tone sounds, the screen goes blank, and you're unable to transmit. If you're not looking at the screen when this happens you assume you're transmitting because you have pressed the PTT button. Pretty annoying. The little LED light at the bottom it nice but unecessary. Motorola should dump the light and invest more into a reliable PTT button, a better belt clip, and extended range capabilities. Even with the drawbacks, it's still the best on the market and we don't leave home without them.

Units seem to work well inside our place of business which is a large metal building. The only concern we have is the belt clips break very easily. Bought a total of 12 of these and had 4 belt clips break in the first few days and then had one volume control knob fall off.

  11. Not great for business use review by RetailRachel on 8/2/2012
    Rating

We are a retail store, we have 5-10 employees using these radios during any shift. They are difficult to understand with any noise going on around you, the earpieces hurt to use, and the clips are poor quality. Any time we bump into a rack or a register counter, the "CALL" goes off like a phone ringing, lasting about 10 seconds and it's very disrupting. We have a freeway within 1 mile from our store. We constantly hear truckers' conversations as they are passing through the city, even on multiple channels.

We use the radios for staff communications during theatrical productions to coordinate sound, lighting, stage, wardrobe, makeup and director. It gives freedom of mobility and with the headsets isolation from the audience

  16. Purchased for bike to bike communication review by Sundy on 9/4/2011
    Rating

Purchased these radios along with XLT HM200-MT Motorcycle Helmet Headset with Handlebar PTT for bike to bike communications. The radios work fine with no accessories, however when the head sets were connected issues arose. The head set plug would not stay in the radio( had to use tape)and the range was less than 1/8 mile. The combination radio and head set would not allow VOX communication, had to use the PPT. Will keep the radios and try to find a helmet head set that works.

  20. So far so good!!! review by Damon the Producer on 4/12/2011

I use the radios for work. They are not to be mistaken for the professional radios used on a set, but for shooting with small crews of 5-8 they work just fine and I'm not worried about someone walking off with them...if they do, I'm not out a fortune. They do exactly what I need them to do...communicate clearly within a quarter mile, but I haven't tried anything further than that.

  21. We like these radios and will buy more. review by R.D.H. on 4/12/2011

  22. Good Motorcycle Radio review by Lee on 2/13/2011
    Rating

I purchase the 350R to replace a worn out Midland 800 series for motorcycle comms. The 800's are no longer available and I know from experience new model Midlands have insufficient output to power headset speakers. I heard the 350R has good output and indeed it does - no problem hearing the headset (XLT model purchased here) even at high speeds on the bike. The USB charge port is a great feature. It's easy to drain a battery on an all day bike run but USB charging ability eliminates the problem. With a USB adapter you can run a charge off the bike's 12 volt system while riding or taking a lunch break. My only niggle is that Motorola doesn't make a water resistant radio like Midland. Odd considering that most of these radios are likely to be used outdoors. Range, clarity and features are all in line with good GMRS radios.

You will need the book to program some settings if you do not use the radios on a regular basis, too much to remember with the multi function controls. Some buttons do multiple tasks. Other than that they are great and tough.
