It transmits on the 22 shared FRS and GMRS simplex channels for license-free communications. It can transmit at up to 2 watts of power, the maximum for FRS, with no special programming needed! It also has 128 programmable memory channels with 155 CTCSS tones and DCS codes, transmit overtime alarm, low voltage prompt, channel name edit and display, and VOX (Voice Operated Transmit).
