Good Unit poor antenna connector
This is a quality product with one serious flaw. The antenna connector is of poor quality and easily receives interference. I removed the antenna connector and pigtail and installed a bulkhead connector and pl259 x2 16 inch pigtail and now have zero loss and no interference. The rest of the enclosure works well. One other thing to note is you will need to dismantle your VV-898 and solder on the jumper wires to enable the use of the on / off switch.
Radio VV898 Radio Conversion Kit
The conversion kit works with the battery and radio, however it has no options for an external earphone which should disconnect the speaker when the user is walking with the backpack. The unit has an input charging port for the lithium battery, but does not have a bypass switch which would allow the use of a 13.6 VDC source to the radio. I made these modifications and now it serves my needs. I would recommend the unit if the above modifications are made.

This replaced the original battery pack, which failed.
Excellent.....But
I have been looking for this kit for my VV898s radio and couldn’t be happier with quality and fix. BUT....the kit came with a small packets with earphone plug tip a bunch of various length colored wires and a electronic piece, but had no instructions on how to mount, how to use, or what they did. Wish mfg would add these SMALL details as many buyers like myself aren’t electronic engineers. The earphone plug isnt connected...so the outlet and switch on kit doesn’t not work. Maybe it’s the small packet parts?
