Great little Antenna
I borrowed this antenna from a friend and mounted it on the cab roof of my truck for GMRS radio. It performed flawless if you'er on a repeater. I transmitted using this Midland antenna while driving on the interstate up to 25 miles from the repeater and was able to transmit to others. I never tried talking on simplex so cannot give information on its performance. But, around Baton Rouge and other parishes it worked great!
Good for what it is
This has been a good little antenna. Given it's form factor, it doesn't work as well as Midland's 6 db antenna but that should be expected since the design is a compromise. SWR is good right out of the packaging. The benefit is clearance for over head obstacles, like the entry for a garage and so on. If that isn't a concern for you, the 6 db antenna will give you better range. If you don't need range as much, say a vehicle convoy on the road or on the trail and you are staying together, this works perfectly fine.
