I would most definitely recommend this radio to anybody. In fact I'm going to buy a second one.

This is a real nice compact radio that performs very well and easy to use. I would recommend for anyone entering the hobby, a nice back-up or a go and grab radio in emergencies.

The radio behave quite well. Good receive/selectivity. Tx output as it should be on all ends of the bands. Cools well. Programming the front panel was easy for me. (Radio's audio it pretty good for it's size but if an external speaker is to be used one would want to use an amplified ext spk.,)

I use this radio as a mobile radio. I am getting excellent reports and getting reports of full quieting. Depending where you mount the radio, you may want an external speaker. I would have given it 5 stars, but the mic was defective, worked intermittently. Therefore I gave it only 4 stars. The PTT switch had cold solder & had lose connections. Once it was soldered, it worked fine...problem solved, but still a very good radio!

I use this radio as my mobile radio. It takes up very little space and can be mounted most anywhere especially where space is limited especially in compact vehicles. I have been using it for a couple of weeks and I am getting reports of full quieting and I am very satisfied with the radio. I would have given it 5 stars but gave it only 4 stars. There was a problem with the mic. The PTT switch on the mic circuit board had cold solder connections and was making intermittent contact. Once I repaired the mic, everything worked excellent. A minor defect and easily repaired. This is an excellent compact radio.

Audio is very loud for such a small radio. Can hear very clear at about half way up. would give at least four stars but duel watch will mess up if you get to talking back and forth, I have 3 of them and all three do it. You will miss what the other guy is saying and wonder if they ever herd you. Mic is pretty small, i guess to match the radio size. Programming is not bad with either chirp of the software that comes with it. Plus you get the programming cable and software with it. Power does fluctuate a bit. I have seen as low as 15, 16 watts and as high as 29, 30 watts. There is a glitch in the software where sometimes you have to push the ptt buttom to make the keys on the mic work but not a big deal if your only using one freq. Scan is a little slow if you have a long scan list. Bottom line, not bad, could be better and I hope they last at least a couple of years.

Impressive front end... An amplified external speaker should be used if one is in a noisy environment. Audio amp could use some improvement. I have purchased 2 of these devices so far and I just love them. All in all I give this little guy a thumbs up! "Buy two way radios is a grand company as well." Been looking for a used Yaesu FT-90R, a compact dual band to mount on the dash of my Jeep Wrangler for the longest time. The FT-90 is notable for having a noisy front end, a trade-off for the compactness. Having read an online article about the Leixen VV-898S, skeptical about a Chinese radio, but have been impressed so far. It came with the 1.07B firmware which CHIRP software as of this date has not been updated to yet, but have used the Leixen software, though clunky and will not import .csv files, everything manually, works pretty good as well has additional features for time out timer, and Auto power off. The radio came with a cigarette lighter plug which I "cut-off" and wired to the battery and as well supposedly 'voided the warranty' (seriously Buy-Two-Way-Radio! How many Motorola mobiles do you sell with "cigarette plugs" wired to the radio??) The folks in Schaumburg will get a laugh!! I connected this to a Comet CA-2X4SR antenna and am very pleased with the performance. It may program 198 memories (99 each A or B channel bank) as well as 10 FM Broadcast channels, which probably have less load on the car battery to listen to news during an incident. Has a bright display that's easy on the eyes and traditional red/green xmit/receive LED's. The microphone buttons illuminate orange when you remove the mic. from the grounded mic. clip and shut back off when you place it back in the mic. clip holder. A nice feature!!
