So far I am very fond of this radio. I hope Wouxun doesn't give up on the DMR arena.
Two little quirks:
1) When sending or receiving SMS, it runs all the words together with no spaces between even if you put 2 spaces between the words. My work around is to use period (.) between words.
2) When you are in a menu, or typing an SMS, if somebody somewhere kerchunks the repeater or keys up at all, it will dump you out of the menu and you lose what you were doing.
I now own a MD-380, a GD77 and the Wouxun for DMR...though the Wouxun has no bells and whistles, I am still very fond of it. It fits the hand nicely and feels solid.
Now if Wouxun would get rid of the ability to record conversations and use that memory for say the User DB, it would be a hit. But even so, the user db is not critical. I still love this little radio.
I gave it 4 stars because of the quirks, but its a very nice radio and yes I would recommend it.
I now own 2 Wouxun handie talkies. Both are great! The KG-D901 which I just purchased is great. I had some programming cable problems but Rob Price of your service department resolved them all in an instant! Programming these DMR radios is not a task for the weak hearted but with some careful study, it becomes an easy project. A ham like me with almost 60 years in the hobby certainly needs a lot of Youtube videos on DMR in general and some reading of the programming concepts. If you are willing to devote a little time, you won't be disappointed. Buytwowayradios.com is my go to place for radios such as this one. GREAT product, GREAT customer support. The programming software and the printed user manuals are not the fault of Buytwowayradios.com. That's just what we get with these Chinese radios... but we save a bunch of money if we are willing to work through the setup!

only the programming is a bit complicated but the radio is very good and strong as the battery lasts a lot I recommend it is heard very well and transmits very natural, thanks wouxun
I've had 2 other Wouxun radios, both of which had problems, one of which I was able to return to the US distributor for a replacement. The other is sitting half dead in its box since I could get no service on it after it was 3 months out of the 1 year warranty and was too much trouble to send it back to China for a repair estimate. This is why I won't purchase ANY radio that does not have Customer Service in the United States !
I have been using this radio for a little over a month now. It feels well made and does not feel like a cheap piece of plastic. I have not had any issues with programming the radio using Windows 10. It has great battery life and the speaker quality is excellent. However, there is only room for 32 channels, which is a big problem that needs to be addressed. There is also a 64 contact limit.
The KG-D901 is a great radio, but it's unfinished. It feels like a quality radio in your hand, and all of the buttons feel solid. The PTT button has great response, and is not flimsy by any means. The radio is Windows 10 compatible as well. However, the radio is only half finished. First of all, it only allows for 2 zones and 16 channels maximum (32 channels total). There is a maximum of 64 programmable contacts/talkgroups, which is not nearly enough. They have not exactly sorted out the translation from Chinese to English in the manual either, as this could definitely be improved upon. After speaking with Wouxun, they said if you want to update your radio so it has 1024 channels, you must send your radio to their office in China.
Wouxon Writing A Download Firmware Upgrade, To Increase Channel Capability. Hope It's soon. Excellent Rig.
