How To Get in Trouble With a Kenwood Radio in Chicago

A news story just popped up about a person in Chicago using a radio to impersonate transit workers and causing bit of trouble for people using Chicago trains. No one was hurt by his pranks, but this could have been a much more serious story very easily.

Now some may try to use this as a reason to have radio licensing more heavily enforced, but that would not have stopped any of this. However, if you wonder why two way radios are often limited in broadcasting power, this is one of them.

There are always going to be people like the one in the story. If you misuse radios in this manner you probably will be caught eventually. When someone does something like this it does have ramifications on everyone in the radio community. So people, use some sense when you operate a radio.

a while back when i was a working cop in calif. we had an impersonator pulling cars over and so on. we knew who was doing this, but we had to catch him in the act before we could do anything. Then one night we got a call officer down in the street, full response went out, it turned out this was our impostor and he had been shot and killed by unknown person or persons. luckily for us, he had equipped his vehicle with a video system and had a full view of who did what and so on. The person who did the shooting had just robbed a 7-11 and killed the clerk, unknown to our impostor. Bad guy got pulled over and had nothing to lose to kill a cop, so he shot. This is a real good reason not to play cops and robbers. robbers use real bullets. stay safe out there.
