The Midland MXT500 MicroMobile™ GMRS two way radio is a powerful and full featured mobile designed exclusively for GMRS! It's packed with all of the features that you would expect from a top of the line GMRS radio, such as support for all high powered GMRS channels and full repeater support, including split tones. The MXT500 delivers up to full 50 watts of power - the most allowed by law - and allows you to select from 3 power levels.
The MXT500 has many features you would expect from high end GMRS mobile radios, such as a built-in NOAA weather radio, narrow and wide band selectability, and adjustable squelch. But its versatility doesn't end there. It also has Scan Skip, Talk Around, a voice compander, and a backlit LCD display with 7 color options for custom aesthetics in your vehicle.
The Midland MXT500 is a great choice for many outdoor applications, as it provides an IP66 waterproof rating - enough to hold up to heavy rain or even direct jets of water! A USB-C port is provided for quick charging of other devices, such as a smartphone.

Solid performer
I've been waiting for an American Made full-power GMRS radio to come to market. I preordered it prior to release from Buy Two Way Radios and inquired on when it would ship and had it in my hands 2 1/2 weeks earlier than expected; Buy Two Way Radios shipped it on receipt.
I'm a dual licensed ham/gmrs operator and the MXT500 brings full GMRS power to my shack. It is easy to operate, does the full legal FCC limit of 5 watts on channels 1-7. It also does the legal limit of 50 watts on channel's 15-22 and the 8 repeater channels and it even does split tones. Coupled with the 6db Midland antenna brings this radio to 200 watts effective radiated power (50 watts doubled twice is 200 watts). Note this radio does NOT have channels 8 - 14 because the legal limit on those channels is 1/2 watt with non-removable antennas.
The radio is built like a tank; It doesn't feel cheap or gimmicky. It is a solid performer, more sensitive than any of my scanners at picking up FRS/GMRS transmissions. Weak-staticy transmissions on FRS from about half a mile on my scanner are crystal clear on the MXT500.
I'm pleased with this purchase. I bought this radio to be a GMRS base station for my home shack but I'll put it in the truck for long trips with the travel trailer. I've owned several Midland radios over the years and still have the Midland 13-388B 23 channel CB that once belonged to my father-in-law. Midland makes good radios. I'll eventually buy a second for my truck.

Bought this as my first GMRS radio and so far I’m impressed. Also picked up the Midland MXTA26 antenna. SWR read 1.0 on low power channels and 1.3 on CH 16-22 at 46W. Good transmission and able to get 5 bars at 15 miles across a river valley on a UV-9G hand held and it picked up my 5W hand held signal at 3 bars at the same range. Plan to pick up a base antenna for the house to use this Ian’s a base unit when it’s not in the truck. Nice all in one package for easy installation.
Good Radio, But Made In China
I will say this, it is a good radio, not made in the USA, but it is made in China. Read on the back of the radio! And i hate the fact that they make you buy a mag-mount antenna with it, i only need the radio. And i now for a fact, that the tiny antenna that comes with it is no way a 6db gain. I have one of the best comet repeater antennas money can buy, and it is only a 9.5db gain.
not 50 watts
radio is built well but it's not pushing anywhere near 50 watts...best i got was 36.5 watts...may return for something made in USA

I am extremely satisfied with the 50 watt radio. On low power SWR is 1.0 with the longer dual band antenna. On High power it put out 47 watts with a SWR of 1.46 with no trimming. I will get another

Works good. Using as a mobile radio. Still waiting for a wouxon kg1000 for my base station. Hope they get in stock soon.
