Announcing the Wouxun KG-XS20G Plus!

Wouxun KG-XS20G Mobile GMRS Two Way RadioFrom the day of its arrival in August of 2021, the Wouxun KG-XS20G became an instant favorite with many GMRS operators. Today the best compact mobile GMRS radio just got better. We're excited to announce the launch of an upgrade, The KG-XS20G Plus!

The KG-XS20G Plus is essentially the same radio as the original XS20G, but with five key updates.

  • Selectable Display Themes
The original XS20G had one full color display theme, which consisted of color text against a light background. The KG-XS20G Plus now has a new THEME menu item with with four options, labeled WHITE-1, WHITE-2, BLACK-1, and BLACK-2. These themes are designed to closely match the KG-935G. For those who want to keep the theme from the original XS20G, the name of the theme is now WHITE-2. The default theme for the KG-XS20G Plus is now BLACK-2.
  • Night Mode Function
The Plus version adds a new feature called NIGHT mode. When Night Mode is activated, the Bright Active (BRT-ACTV) and Bright Standby (BRT-STBY) values are reduced by 50%, and an icon of a moon is shown in the top icon area of the display to indicate that Night Mode is active. The Night Mode feature can be assigned to a programmable function key (PF key) for instant activation.
  • Assignable TDR Function Key
In addition to the TDR key on the radio, the TDR function itself can now be assigned to a programmable function key (PF key) for instant switching between single and dual display.
  • Faster Channel Switching
The speed of changing channels via the front panel channel knob has been increased.
  • Power On Beep Eliminated
When the original KG-XS20G is first powered on, it emits a power-on beep. In a recent customer survey, there were a number of complaints that the beep was too loud. The beep seemed rather unnecessary to begin with, so rather than reduce the volume, the power-on beep was eliminated entirely.

The best part is the price. It hasn't changed. The KG-XS20G Plus is the same price as the original.

As of today, November 21, 2022 the original KG-XS20G is officially retired. From this point forward all customers who purchase a KG-XS20G will receive the Wouxun KG-XS20G Plus. Price: $199.99

I disagree on the inclusion of the cable, with it able to be programmed using Chirp, that cable would be an excellent inclusion. With so many people chosing to program radios with it. They could offer the just radio option at a lower price, (without it being superheterodyne it's overpriced IMHO,) for those whom don't need it or want it. Other Chinese companies have similar radios with better specs and quality for either similar price and include the cable or are cheaper. They also need to make that 'comparison chart' a pdf so it can actually be read since they're obviously not competent enough to fix their website.

Is the new Wouxun KG-XS20G plus a super-heterodyne radio or a radio on chip unit? I was thinking about purchasing this unit. However, due to its relatively low cost, I suspect that it is a radio on chip unit. That's not a deal breaker, but I just wanted to know before I did anything. FYI, I think that Wouxun should consider including the programming cable for a for more bucks. I think that potential buyers would appreciate that. Without the programming cable in the box, the radio is somewhat incomplete. Thanks.

Hi Ralph, the Wouxun KG-XS20G Plus is direct conversion, as listed in our Wouxun GMRS Radio Comparison Chart. As for the programming cable, Wouxun doesn't include it with the radio because the programming is optional. As a GMRS radio, it's already pre-programmed for the 30 GMRS channels, so programming isn't required to operate it out of the box. A large percentage of our customers use the KG-XS20G as is, with only tweaks to the CTCSS/DCS and a few other features that can easily be performed from the hand mic. We do appreciate the suggestion!
