Wouxun KG-Q10G Handheld GMRS Radio

My only experience is with ham HT's. Based on that, this is a well built, solid radio. Better than I expected...
So far, it's working as advertised without complaint.
I would buy another and probably will when/if I need it.

So, I'm brand new to this......just get this radio. It does everything you want. You think you want a ham radio.....no, you want a gmrs radio. Still has repeater networks and great range for simplex. Only downer is the fixed antenna. If I had an extra 200$ I would try and twist it off.

Love the feel of the buttons and knob. Feels good in the hand. Able to have ten different scan bands is a big plus in my book. I do need to find away to remove the antenna for I can use the antenna that is outside my house.

Since I have had the time to use my radio, I wanted to give an honest review. I love this radio and the features it provides. I haven't had any problems with it at all and I have received nothing but positive reports when contacting on a reapter. The only thing i am not sure of is firmware updates. The program for this radio doesn't seem to provide a way to update it and I can't even find a way to see which firmware I have on my radio.

Sorry to say I had to send my radio back only to find out it was defective and would not program after using the RT system cable or the red Wouxun cable with many hours of headache. There is a YouTube video of this same problem happening to others. For the record the KG-935G and KG-805G, UV9G Pro are all outstanding radios. You may want to pass on the Q-10.

I'm new to amateur radio in general (yes, GMRS is not Ham). The KG-Q10G is a very nice device but admittedly I have no reference points to compare it. It works pretty much as expected, it's nice to have dual channels and dual PTT. The programming of the PTT was by Active area, but this was confusing. I'm happy that the option to program the PTT by area only was available, this is much more intuitive (top PTT=top area, bottom PTT=bottom area). Programming using the companion USB cable and RT software was a breeze. I'll definitely recommend this radio to friends.

I received my radio in a couple days. Was easy to program for the most part when programming any channel that is not a GMRS frequency you can not insert the TX frequency on certain frequencies which is aggravating. Also found out the stock antenna is not removable to use a different antenna or use it with your mobil antenna (found that out after talking with 2 way radios). My mic/programming panel will not tighten down either 1 screw is to short or the inserts are in to far so it went back for them to look at it. Another issue is you have to enable the GPS so the clock will display even though you can program the clock with the programming software. First impression is not all that good. We will see what they say in a couple days.

Live the price and quality. Being able to monitor CB channels is brilliant!

I was surprised to find the radio has a fixed antenna preventing you from connecting any other antenna to the radio. I'll stick with my KG-935 as my primary GMRS radio. Returning this once I receive an RMA number.

I now have two of these radios-black and green. I’ve tried every function and the radio performs beautifully. The manual is well written, describing and defining all functions and menu options. I’ve even used this radio while driving to hit a repeater 20mi away! Channel add through cloning current freq or by using Channel Wizard is extremely easy and I got both radios twinned in about half an hour-all options the same including the same 9 channels I created on both. Batteries last at least 20 hours on. I purchased an additional battery for each and rotate them evenly. Do yourself a favor and stop spending money buying radio after radio-this one does it all for GMRS! Buying the H model as soon as I get my ham.

I have purchased two KG-Q10Gs and they are awesome GMRS radios. I also have two other wouxun GMRS radios but like these so much better, specifically because these batteries have a long run time and they can be swapped between my KG-Q10Gs and my KG-Q10H.

Love the receiver performance in the KG-Q10G! It is a definite improvement over the receiver-on-a-chip designs. Solidly built and great audio too. Thank you!

Bought four for use on RV Trips! Sometimes us and other family members go different directions with no cell service! This takes care of that for the most part. I also have a portable repeater in the RV with a collapsable mast on my ladder! Overall great radios!!

I recently purchased both the KG-Q10G and the KG-935G+. While the Q10G is a good radio, I find the overall build quality to be somewhat less than that of the 935G+. For one, the side cover plate screws tend to strip out easier (already had to replace them once) and the cover itself is weaker. The chassis itself also seems to be more fragile especially where the battery meets the chassis. The thickness of the plastic there is just too thin in my opinion.

Build quality aside the software and radio operation is excellent. However, I will say that the software does seem to be a tad laggier than the 935G+.

I am very pleased with the purchase of this radio, with only a few issues. Being a mac user, chirp has not released this radio as yet, which will make programing easier. 2 The PTT cover when removing does not retain the screws, so they could be easily lost, packaging contained 4 screws, 2 for attaching the belt clip, the other 2 had thumb screw grips, but did not fit anything included, and manual did not note what they were for. Other than that, the radio works as specified in the reviews. Thank you Buy Two Way Radio’s. David

My KG-Q10G was delivered a few days ago. The reception is very clear and crisp with the stock antenna, and transmits every bit as well as my KG-UV9GX's (yes, I have 2, long story on how that happened). The reception on WX is excellent. I haven't tried the GPS function, so I can't comment on that. There's only two minor negatives. The scan is a bit slow. Also, I had to activate the CB channels in order to scan those. Despite the two small gripes, the KG-Q10G gets five stars and my recommendation.
