  • Two Way Radios for a Camping or Hunting Trip

Are you looking for two way radios to use on your next camping or hunting trip? Here at Buy Two Way Radios we have several radios designed for the outdoor enthusiast. One of the main things you will want to look at is the wattage, and not that fake range they put on the packaging. The watts will help you gauge the actual transmit power of the radio. Next, a solid rugged design that has some water resistance. Next I would determine if there are any features I like such as GPS, weather alerts, or accessories such as throat mics. So here are just a few of the radios we like:

Garmin Rino 650 Two Way Radio with GPS

Midland GXT-860-VP4 Two Way Radios with Headsets and Charger

Motorola TALKABOUT MR355R Two Way Radios

Olympia R500 Waterproof Two Way Radio Value Pack

  • A CB Radio for my Truck

That is correct, truck. Not a radio for your boat. This time we are going to talk about a radio for your truck (or car). For many of us, a hand held two way radio meets most of our needs, but a CB radio is what we want in our vehicle. CB radios are usually capable of connecting to external antennas, which dramatically increase outdoor range. They are also useful if you like the idea of communicating with other travelers outside of your immediate group. Here at Buy Two Way Radios we carry a nice selection of CB radios for serious drivers and mobile radio enthusiast.

If you are looking for a classic CB radio with modern updates, give the Cobra 148 GTL SSB CB Radio a look. It may look like an old CB on the exterior, but inside it is a very modern radio. This one is popular with professional drivers for a reason, great performance and features in a functional design.

Looking for a CB with the same classic styling and modern updates but don't quite need all of the features of the 148? Then check out the Cobra 25 LTD Classic CB Radio.

Want a handheld CB radio? You will want to look at the Cobra HH-Roadtrip CB Radio. It even has a detachable antenna for longer range.

So go and give our CB Radio Section a look.

  • Two Way Radio Tips and Tricks

UPDATE: link was removed due to missing or expired page or content.

There are a lot of fun things you can do with a set of two way radios. Here at the office the other day we found this fun bit using some two ways as a remote camera trigger. A very long range remote camera trigger.

Another fun trick, you can use two radios as a short range repeater of sorts. We will let you guys figure that one out. Uhm, kind of requires duct tape.

Feel free to send us your favorite two way radio tricks and tips and we will pass them on. Just remember, no actual internal modifications allowed to the radios. While I am sure you get great range when you attached that old TV antenna to your radio, well let us just leave it at that.

  • International Marconi Day

Hi all! Tomorrow is April 25th, the birthday of Guglielmo Marconi, the "father of radio". There are a few celebrations taking place this weekend, and I know quite a few of you are amateur radio enthusiast, so have a great weekend.

  • Midland Marine Radios: Now Shipping

We now have some new marine radios from Midland, and since we have already gone over the reasons for having a radio for your boat, Here is a short description for each one (Contact us if you have any questions or to help find the right radio for you.):

Midland Nautico 1: This is a nice basic marine radio that has US, Canadian, and international marine channels, NOAA weather alerts, and even has a watertight storage bag.

Midland Nautico 3: This radio has US, Canadian, and international marine channels, NOAA weather alerts, meets JIS4 water proofing requirements, and a removable antenna

Regatta 1B and 1W: This transceiver is able to transmit at 1 watt or 25 watts and includes all US, Canadian, and international marine channels. The Reggata 1 has 10 NOAA all hazards weather alerts, meets JIS7 specifications and is water submersible. It includes DSC digital selective calling, channel scan, emergency channel 16/9, distress button, PA function, and a GPS data connector. It can also be permanently mounted.

The Nautico 1 makes a great backup radio, but I would prefer the Nautico 3 as my regular handheld and the one I would put in my ditch bag. The removable antenna on the Nautico 3 is another great feature, just hook up a longer antenna and you should get even more range. We do wonder a bit why the Regatta is water submersible though.

  • New 2009 Cobra Radios are Now Here!

Four new Cobra radios are now in stock and ready to ship. Here at Buy Two Way Radios we are often impressed by Cobra radios. Compact, affordable, and loaded with features they are a great value and often a good solution for those that are tired of larger and bulkier radios. New for this year, they are all certified lead free and even come in an eco-friendly package.

First we have the Cobra microTALK CXT90, a great little entry level radio. It has 22 GMRS/FRS channels and 121 privacy codes, VOX hands free operation, scan feature, selectable roger beep, and a key lock all in a small case. This is a good "starter" radio for a very nice price.

Next we have the Cobra microTALK CXT400. The 22 GMRS/FRS channels and 121 privacy codes, VOX hands free operation, scan feature, selectable roger beep, NOAA weather alerts, and a backlit display are just some of the features.

The Cobra microTALK CXR700 is another feature packed radio in a small case. The radios have 22 GMRS/FRS channels and 142 privacy codes. It also has VOX hands free operation, VibrAlert® silent paging, scan feature, selectable roger beep, NOAA weather alerts, and a key lock. This radio is very compact and could be a great alternative to those replacing cell phones with two way radios.

The final new radio is the Cobra microTALK CXR900. This model is also rather compact compared to other similar radios. With 22 GMRS/FRS channels and 142 privacy codes, VOX hands free operation, 10-Channel NOAA All Hazards Radio, VibrAlert® silent paging, scan feature, selectable roger beep, and a key lock it is loaded with capabilities. It also has a new feature we really like. With the Rewind-Say-Again® feature you can replay calls and record messages for playback. This is great for noisy environments.
