We received an announcement from TYT last night that a new DMR radio will be coming soon. We haven't received a lot of details, but it looks to be a refreshed MD-380 that is dual band (UHF/VHF). Click here to view a brochure with specifications.
Nothing is set in stone at this time, but TYT is targeting April, 2018 to begin production with a retail price of around $149.
We were told that a sample would be shipped to us next week, so stay tuned for updates and more details! If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below! We'll pass your questions along to TYT and answer them in our next update.
Update May 17, 2018 - List price is $129 for the non-GPS model. A GPS model will be released later for $139.
Update May 29, 2018 - The TYT MD-UV380 is here! It's now in stock and available in limited quantity from Buy Two Way Radios.

Does anyone know for sure whether this radio is a superhet or direct conversion? Like, hard evidence?
Thanks,
As noted in our earlier response, TYT acknowledged that it is direct conversion, not superheterodyne.
I currently have an TYT MD-380 and am wanting a dual-band DMR with (possibly) GPS. I already use APRS and am familiar with that, but what (if anything) else can GPS do for me on these radios?
Joe, the information is near the end of the article. To re-iterate, there is no hard release date for the GPS model, which is expected to be priced at $139.
is the TYT MD UV 380 DUAL BAND available with the GPS unit yet? if so, what will the cost be?
thanks,
Joe
Thanks!
Hi George, the TYT MD-UV380 is available now.
Pete, our response is listed in the comments. We also discussed it in episode 123 of The Two Way Radio Show.
Any word yet on whether this model uses a superhet receiver vs. direct conversion?
Really? Use your cell phone.
hi there how do i get my hands on the tyt md uv380 or 390
How can I get notified when the GPS units are available?
I am saving to buy one in September of this year.
According to TYT, it is direct conversion.
Hi Ian, due to a history of delays with new TYT products in the past, we are not offering the MD-UV380 for pre-sale. We will begin selling the MD-UV380 as soon as we receive the radios, which should be around the first week of June.
No, one cannot hear both bands at the same time.
When will retail sales start for the tyt md-uv380
I do nt see where the specification allows for 25khz standard fm operation. Only 12.5khz!
with this radio can we hear both bands at the same time?
Same question as Igor, Robert and Joseph - Does the MD-UV380 have a Superheterodyne Receiver? - kind of a selling point really since all the other Chinese DMR dual band radios are direct conversion
I'm also very interested in what type of receiver is inside. Whether a honest superhet such as MD380 or total **** like in all current Chinese DMR dualbands.. Very important information!!
Has there been any update as to when this model will be out? And will it be superheterodyne instead of direct conversion?
