The Wouxun KG-935G is now supported by CHIRP!

Wouxun KG-935G and Programming CableIf you are the proud owner of the popular Wouxun KG-935G GMRS two way radio, and have been frustrated with the fact that the programming sofware provided by Wouxun only works on a Windows PC, the time has come to rejoice. The Wouxun KG-935G is now officially supported by CHIRP!

With the release of chirp-daily-20220909, the KG-935G is now officially listed as one of the radios that can be programmed using the CHIRP programming software. This should come as a great news to fans of the KG-935G who are also users of CHIRP and use it as their app of preference for programming popular amateur radios.

CHIRP makes it easy to program channels, frequencies, CTCSS tones, DCS codes and power levels into the 935G, as well as allowing you to configure and customize various features of the radio.

That's not all. In addition to all the standard programming options, the CHIRP software will allow you to edit the message that is shown on the display when an area is off. Currently it is fixed at "KG-935G", but through CHIRP you can edit it to display any text you want. You can find this option in CHIRP by going to Settings, choosing OEM Info and changing the in the first box titled Model / Bottom Banner. The limit is eight alphanumeric characters.

CHIRP generally allows importing and exporting from another radio that was also programmed with the app. The import/export capabilities can be utilized with the KG-935G GMRS radio as well. You can export your frequencies from another radio and import them into your 935G file without having to retype everything. You can also copy and paste between files.

But the news is even better. In addition to Windows, CHIRP also supports Mac and Linux! The lack of Mac and Linux support from Wouxun has been a bone of contention with some customers who want to program their Wouxun KG-935G on their computer but don't have Windows PC. Now that the KG-935G can be programmed using CHIRP, this is no longer an issue.

Thanks go to Mel Terechenok for volunteering his time and effort to create the driver and adding the KG-935G to CHIRP to make this possible!

Note: CHIRP is third party software and is not produced or supported by Wouxun or Buy Two Way Radios. While we have confirmed that the functionality seems to work well with the KG-935G, we cannot guarantee that there are no bugs or that future updates won't cause issues. We cannot be held responsible if there are problems with your radio as a result of using CHIRP. Use at your own discretion and risk.

I see the option for my KG935G Plus. I'm using the programming cable that works on some other radios like the UV5, UVK6, etc. When I select the correct radio and try downloading from it I get the message saying the radio is'nt responding. I've plugged the cable in both before and after turning the radio on but it simply goes to normal mode. Is there something special I have to do on the radio for this to work?

I have the same issues that I have with the Wouxun programming software as I have with the Chirp software. Com port issue. I am running Windows 11.

That is because Com port issues generally have little or nothing to do with the programming software. They have everything to do with your hardware, driver and port assignments on your computer. Your COM port is hardware related, and if it isn't assigned or configured properly through your operating system, no programming software will be able to access it.

Hi, I have the latest version of Chirp downloaded using windows 10 and I don't see the KG935G listed. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. I have used Chirp before on another Wouxun radio both bought from you.
    Thanks

Linda, try downloading chirp-daily-20220909 as the KG-935G it is listed in that version. This is the version we checked and verified the listing. If you have a later version and it does not show up on the list, contact the CHIRP developers to determine if it was later omitted as an oversight. As it is their program, they ultimately decide what goes into each build of CHIRP.

As a follow up to my previous email, I'm using Chirp version 20200917 for Mac. It appears not to list Wouxun as an option.

Hi Harry, that's because 2020917 is an older version from two years ago, dated 9-17-2020. As stated in the article, support for the Wouxun KG-935G was included in the daily build with version 220909, released September 9, 2022.

Rick, This is great news. However, I have a question: I'm trying to use Chirp (for Mac) and a BTech USB programming cable to program my Wouxun KG-935G. I don't see Wouxun as one of the radio choices in the Chirp dropdown menu. Is that because the BTech cable will not work for Wouxun radios or is there some other reason? Sorry for the (potentially) dumb question, but thanks for your help!

I wanted to ask about what no one is talking about, Windows 11.
I own the 935-G and 805-G and UV9G portable radios.
My question is are the Wouxun programs and Chirp all working with Windows 11 yet?
    Thank you for your reply.

This is great news. The Wouxun software is absolute garbage. I hope the S88G gets support too!

While I appreciate that this improvement has been made for people who prefer to do their programming with a computer, software and cable. I only program using the keypad and the internal menu system. I realize this is considered to be old-fashioned but it works for my needs and like many people these days, I have only a smartphone. The new Btech Pro can be programmed using a phone app and a Bluetooth connection. So maybe Wouxon will get there eventually.
