    Programming the KG-935G Plus
As it is with all Wouxun GMRS radios we carry, the KG-935G Plus is fully programmable from a PC using a programming cable and the Wouxun KG-935G Plus programming software or directly from the keypad of the radio itself. In fact, while customizing the original KG-935G from the keypad is fairly easy overall, The KG-935G+ is now even easier, thanks to a brand new feature introduced with this model - the Channel Wizard.

    Direct from the radio
If you already know how to program new channels and frequencies into the Wouxun KG-935G or another Wouxun radio, you're all set. If not, or if you are new to programming radios altogether, no worries. The KG-935G Plus owners manual is specifically written to get you up to speed quickly. The manual is written in plain English with instructions that are easy to understand. To make it even easier and faster, you can use the Channel Wizard.

    Using the Channel Wizard
The KG-935G Plus has a built in wizard to make is super easy to program a channel into the radio. Called the Channel Wizard, this is a new function that allows you to quickly and easily program a new channel or modify an existing channel direct from the keypad of the radio itself. With the Channel Wizard, you can add or clone new channels into the radio in mere seconds. You can also change the settings in any existing channel. The wizard lets you do all of this without scrolling through the menu to find and set each individual channel option, and without the need for programming software.

There are two ways to access the Channel Wizard. The standard method is to hold the MENU button down for 3 seconds. This will take you directly into it. The second method is to press [MENU] + [6] + [1] and the screen will display: CH-WIZARD. There are ten menu functions in the Channel Wizard, each with their own sub-menu. Go to the first menu item and press [MENU] to enter its sub-menu. Use the [UP] and [DOWN] arrow keys to choose the option you want from that sub-menu, then press [MENU] to enter your choice. This will take you back to the Channel Wizard menu to go to the next or previous Channel Wizard menu function.

The last Channel Wizard menu function is [SAVE-MODE]. You must choose this function to save your channel settings and add, clone or save your channel to the radio. You can choose to save your channel and create another channel or save the channel and exit the Channel Wizard.

Of course, you can opt to enter and save a channel or frequency independently through the individual menu items instead. While not as fast as the Channel Wizard, this method does allow you tweak a specific channel setting as needed.

The KG-935G Plus menu consists of 62 items. Default settings are bold.

Overall, this is a transceiver for licensed operators who want an enhanced GMRS experience at a modest premium.

The KG-1000G Plus is not only a powerful mobile GMRS radio, it also makes an awesome base station. When connected to the Wouxun SPS31WIN, Samlex SEC-1235M or similar power supply, the KG-1000G Plus is an awesome desktop GMRS radio. When connected to a second KG-1000G or KG-1000G Plus as shown in this tutorial video, a pair of these radios can operate as a GMRS repeater!

    Programming the KG-1000G Plus
Programming the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus is essentially the same as programming the original KG-1000G, and with a few added options. You can do it directly from the DTMF keypad on the speaker microphone or through a PC using the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus programming software.

    Direct from the radio
If you are already familiar with the steps to program channels and frequencies into the Wouxun KG-1000G or other Wouxun mobile radios, programming the KG-1000G Plus directly from the radio itself is pretty much the same. If you haven't programmed a Wouxun mobile before or you are new to programming any two way radio, relax. The KG-1000G Plus owners manual is carefully written in plain English and is easy to understand, even when explaining some of the advanced features of the radio.

The KG-1000G Plus menu consists of 66 options. Default settings are bold.

    Programming with software
The KG-1000G Plus uses the same PCO-003 USB programming cable as many other popular Wouxun mobile radios, including the KG-UV920P-A, KG-UV950P, KG-UV980P and original KG-1000G. Simply follow the Wouxun KG-UV920P-A cable driver installation instructions.

Unlike the programming cable, the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus programming software is specific to the radio and is currently available for Windows PCs only. The programming software is located under the Downloads tab on the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus product page at Buy Two Way Radios.

    KG-1000G Plus Operation
Working the KG-1000G Plus is almost exactly same as operating the original KG-1000G. In fact, it is essentially the same radio, so the console, key layout and dual speakers are identical for both radios. It uses a slightly modified version of the KG-UV10A hand speaker microphone with a few buttons that are re-labeled specifically for the Plus. The speaker microphone plugs into a jack located on the right side when facing the front panel. The location of everything else on the front panel is also the same as the aforementioned KG-1000G, including the LCD display, dual volume control knobs and large channel knob.

The keys and their primary functions are listed in the chart below:

    Button Operation

As a GMRS radio alone, the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus is a great value. As a mobile/base station radio or repeater, it can add even greater versatility to your GMRS experience.

    Programming the KG-S72C
As with other Wouxun radios, the KG-S72C is customizable directly from the keypad of the radio itself. Optional programming software allows you to assign CTCSS tones and DCS codes to the 40 CB channels when using the radio in FM mode. You can also configure other functions and features in the radio.

    Direct from the radio
If you already know how to program features into another Wouxun radio, programming the KG-S72C directly from the radio itself is pretty much rote. The only real differences are the menu options themselves.

If you are new to Wouxun handheld radios or configuring a two way radio in general, the KG-S72C owners manual will get you up to speed fast. Unlike many other import radios, this manual is carefully written in plain, simple English with clear instructions that are easy to understand, even when explaining some of the advanced features of the radio.

The KG-S72C menu consists of 43 items. Default settings are bold.

    Programming with software
The KG-S72C uses the Wouxun PCO-001 USB programming cable that works with the KG-S88G. Refer to the cable driver installation instructions for more information.

Of course, the Wouxun KG-S72G programming software is specific to this radio and is currently available for Windows PCs only. The programming software is located under the Downloads tab on the Wouxun KG-S72C product page at Buy Two Way Radios.

    Wouxun KG-S72C FrontKG-S72C Operation
The KG-S88G is quite similar in features and function to most of the other Wouxun handheld radios, with the exception of the 4-key keypad. Although it seems to be limiting on the surface, 4 key operation allows access to premium features while it simultaneously simplifies control. If you already have another Wouxun radio that is field configurable such as the KG-905G , working the S72C will be a similar experience. Even if you are not familiar with the operation of a 4-key Wouxun radio, it's not difficult to master, once you know how to navigate the menu.

The keys on the keypad and their primary functions are listed below:

    Button Operation
MENU Enter program menu|choose/set menu option
UP Key Select previous channel/frequency|Select menu option
DOWN Key Select next channel/frequency|Select menu option
    EXIT Exit menu/cancel

The Wouxun KG-S72C is a compact, powerful and rugged CB radio that offers a lot of flexibility and ease of use at a very competitive price. Why settle for those older, behemoth handheld CB radios when you can have something more stylish and with the latest tech available? The answer is simple. Choosing the KG-S72C is a no-brainer.

  • Wouxun KG-UV950P programming and menu options

KG-UV950P-2.jpgThe Wouxun KG-UV950P quad band mobile two way radio has all the great features of the popular KG-UV920P-A dual band mobile radio, and more, two bands more, to be precise. It transmits and receives on the 2 meter (144-148 MHz), 70cm (420-450 MHz), 6 meter (50.1-54 MHz) and 10 meter (28.3-29.7 MHz) amateur radio bands. This is a great transceiver for hams who want access to multiple bands without paying through the nose to get on the air.

Like the the KG-UV920P-A, the KG-UV950P has cross band repeat capability for even greater functionality. It also makes a nice base station radio when connected to the Wouxun SPS31WIN or similar power supply as shown in the Wouxun KG-UV950P Quad Band Amateur Radio Unboxing video.

    Programming the KG-UV950P
Programming The Wouxun KG-UV950P is the same as programming the KG-UV920P-A. You can do it direct from the console on the front panel of the radio, from the DTMF keypad on the speaker microphone, or through a PC using the Wouxun KG-UV950P programming software.

    Direct from the radio
If you know how to program frequencies into the KG-UV920P-A, the UV950P will be old hat. If you haven't programmed a UV920P-A, or you are new to programming a two way radio, you will need to read the manual carefully and keep it with you for reference until you get the hang of it. The manual is not very intuitive, especially when explaining some advanced features, but it sure beats reading the original manufacturer's user guide for the Baofeng UV-5R, which is widely regarded in the ham radio community as one of the worst operating manuals ever written for an amateur radio of this century. While this latter point is not particularly inspiring, it may be of some consolation if you have trouble getting through the Wouxun manual. Compared to Baofeng, the Wouxun owner's manual is a literary masterpiece.

The KG-UV950P menu consists of 50 items compared to the menu options of the KG-UV920P-A, which has 45 menu options. Default settings are bold.

    Programming with software
The KG-UV950P uses the same USB programming cable as the KG-UV920P-A, so if you already have one, you are halfway there. If you don't, you will need the PCO-003, which includes the Wouxun cable driver and programming software CD when purchased from Buy Two Way Radios. Simply follow the Wouxun KG-UV920P-A cable driver installation instructions and the programming cable should be set to go.

Unlike the programming cable, the Wouxun KG-UV950P programming software is specific to the radio and is currently available for Windows PCs only. If you have the programming software for the KG-UV920P-A, it will not work with the KG-UV950P. If you purchased the programming cable from Buy Two Way Radios, the KG-UV950P software will be included on the cable driver and programming software CD. It is also available as a free download.

    KG-UV950P Operation
Working the KG-UV950P is almost exactly same as operating KG-UV920P-A. The only real difference is the layout of the console and redesign of the speaker microphone. While the key layout is the same on the consoles for both models, the location of the speaker mic jack is not. The speaker microphone plugs into the front of the KG-UV920P-A; on the KG-UV950P, the jack is located on the side of the front panel. The location of everything else on the front panel is the same. The LCD display with a selectable three color backlight, channel knobs, volume knob and DTMF keys, they are all there.

As for the DTMF speaker mic, it is a noticeable redesign of the speaker mic for the KG-UV920P-A. The speaker microphone is shaped differently and a multi-function squelch open/remote control button is added below the PTT button on the left side. All the DTMF keys are there, and a MAIN key is added to change the master channel/frequency on the display. The keypad lock/unlock switch is resized and moved towards the top right of the keypad, and a second switch is added to turn the keypad backlight on and off. The 3 key assigned for CTCSS/DCS setup and scanning on the 920P-A is now assigned for band switching on the 950P. All other key assignments and operations are the same. The keys and their primary functions are listed in the chart below:

As a quad band radio alone, the Wouxun KG-UV950P is a great value. As a mobile/base station radio or cross-band repeater, it can add affordable versatility to any ham shack.

KG-UV920P-A-2.pngThe Wouxun KG-UV920P-A dual band mobile two way radio is a popular choice for ham radio operators who want to go mobile on the 2 meter (144-148MHz) or 70cm (420-450MHz) amateur radio bands without burning all the cash needed to get around town. But there's a lot more to this mobile than just the transceiver. The KG-UV920P-A also has cross band repeat capability, which means you can have a mobile repeater in your vehicle on demand. It can even become a base station radio when connected to an AC power source and mounted to a wall or desk, as depicted in this unboxing video. The typical mobile radio can cost hundreds, without premium features. Investing in the KG-UV920P-A for a low cost, low power cross-band repeater can save a lot of money on two way communications.

    Programming the KG-UV920P-A
As with many mobile two way radios, the KG-UV920P-A can be programmed in one of two ways, either direct from the console on the front panel of the radio, or through a computer via programming software. Technically speaking, there is a third way. The radio can also be programmed directly from the DTMF keypad on the hand speaker mic.

    Direct from the radio
While not impossible, programming direct from the radio can seem daunting, not so much because it is, but because of the sheer number of configuration options available. An evening with the owner's manual is helpful, but may not be particularly enlightening on the first read. However, it may be well worth the time and effort to learn, just in case you ever need to add a channel or two on the fly.

    Programming with software
The Wouxun programming software isn't the greatest application, but it's really not too bad, considering the alternative, which is to program the radio directly from the keypad.

The USB programming cable connector is somewhat specific for this mobile radio, so it isn't something you can freely swap out with other mobile transceivers. The Wouxun programming software is also specific to this model and is currently available for Windows PCs only, but it is available as a free download from Buy Two Way Radios. While not particularly intuitive, the software isn't that complicated, either. If you have programmed a two way radio before, it is somewhat self-explanatory. The USB cable driver needs to be installed first, which can become a challenge if the Wouxun KG-UV920P-A cable driver installation instructions are not properly followed, but once it is set up and the cable is working, it is ready when you need it.

    Operation
The detachable front panel of of the KG-UV920P-A can be mounted inside your vehicle almost anywhere you need it for instant access and ease of operation. The console on the front panel includes an LCD display with a selectable three color backlight, channel knobs, volume knob and the equivalent of a DTMF keypad spread out across the face of the console. In effect, every operation that can be performed from the keypad on the speaker mic can also be initiated from the front panel of the radio.

Once the power button is pressed on the console, The KG-UV920P-A can be configured and controlled directly from the built-in DTMF keypad on the hand speaker mic. This is quite convenient, especially when the mic is in hand and the console is slightly out of reach. The speaker mic even has a volume wheel to adjust the output of the speaker on the mic. It also includes a keypad lock to prevent accidental key presses of the keys on the hand mic. The keypad consists of 16 keys. The keys and their primary functions are outlined in the chart below:

    Button Operation
UP ARROW Select previous channel|Select menu option
DOWN ARROW Select next channel|Select menu option
    1-BAND Change master channel/frequency
    2-MHz Frequency/channel selection
    3-QT/DT CTCSS/DCS setup|CTCSS/DCS scan
    4-MEMCH Save channel
    5-H/L Set Power output (H-M-L)
    6-VFO/MR Frequency mode/Channel mode switch
    7-SET-D Frequency shift direction
    8-TDR Single/dual display switch

The Wouxun KG-UV920P-A is a feature rich mobile radio at a value price. When you add in the cross-band repeat functionality, it's really quite a bargain.
