The KG-905G transmits on the 15 high powered GMRS simplex channels, 8 low powered simplex channels and all 8 GMRS repeater channels at up to 5 watts of power, with no special programming needed. It supports up to 256 custom channels and 16 channel groups, with 157 standard and non-standard CTCSS tones and DCS codes to eliminate unwanted interference. Want split tones? you've got them! CTCSS/DCS tone scan? You've got that too. The KG-905G makes it easy to find and configure tones and codes to match existing radios in your group.

Sure, there are the standard features of GMRS handheld transceivers, such as channel scan, timeout timer, roger beep, button beeps and VOX, but that's just to be expected. Where The KG-905G really outclasses the competition is in its more advanced functionality.

Wouxun takes the KG-905G way beyond the bubble pack with features you won't find in typical consumer grade GMRS walkie talkies, such as Priority Channel Scan, Group Scan, Busy Channel Lockout, built-in voltage meter, selectable power, selectable wide and narrow bandwidth, English voice prompts, programmable function keys, and even a built-in stopwatch. Will the KG-905G work with my current FRS/GMRS radio?

Yes. This radio is fully compatible with all 22 channel FRS, GMRS, or FRS/GMRS combo radios.

Is this a single radio, or a two pack?

Single radio.

This radio is more expensive than other GMRS radios. Why?

While this radio is easy to use and is compatible with other FRS and GMRS radios, it was designed with power users in mind. It is more durable, is higher wattage, is equipped with a more powerful battery and has better audio quality than typical consumer radios. It is also IP66 dust and waterproof. Basically, it is built like a business radio. It also has advanced features that would usually appeal more to "power users," such as repeater support and the ability to use PC programming software to customize the channels list.

Can I add custom channels to the KG-905G?

Yes, if you use the programming software (available from the Downloads tab). The KG-905G supports up to 256 custom channels, and with the software you can add new channels or even remove standard ones. It also supports channel groups. The CTCSS/DCS tones can be customized for each channel and can be different for transmit and receive.

Extra channels are useful for many reasons. If you access different repeaters that use the same frequency but different tones, it's more convenient to add each combination to its own channel instead of changing tones through the menu. Channels can also be given friendly names instead of a simple number, and the default channel names can be customized.

A programming cable is required to customize the radio through the software. Check the Accessories tab above for options.

What's the difference between the KG-905G and the KG-805G?

Wouxun currently offers two portable handheld GMRS radios, the KG-805G and the KG-905G. We carry both models.

The difference is the KG-805G costs less, has 128 custom channels, and is IP55 water resistant. The KG-905G has 256 custom channels, 16 channel groups, a larger improved display, CTCSS/DCS tone scan and is IP66 waterproof. Both radios are equipped with a superheterodyne receiver, 5 watts of power, and many advanced features. Overall, it's really a personal choice.

Does the Wouxun KG-905G require a license?

Yes. Even though this radio is fully compatible with license free FRS radios, it has several features that make it fall under the GMRS service and not FRS. Some of these features are: 5 watts of power (FRS limit is 2), removable antenna (FRS must be fixed), and repeater support (FRS doesn't support repeaters). Just purchased this radio package to use for comms while on RV trips with my wife in areas without cell coverage. I have read a number of reviews about people having issues with programming these radios via PC and not being able to change the comm port in the software.

TIP: To change the com port in the programming software, right-click the icon and select "Run as Administrator". This will allow you to change the com port for the programming cable. Once the com port is set correctly, you can launch the programming software normally after that and it will load with the com port setting you selected.

Did several radio checks with my son in the house and me in town inside my car as far as 6.65 miles away, line of sight, verified on Google Maps. A little scratchy but easily readable. Looking forward to hunting season this year to compare performance after adding in terrain. Radios feel bulky and good quality. Hoping for years of use with the high water resistance rating. Batteries seem to hold a good charge with regular use.

They look and feel great. I also purchased the Wouxun 1000 mobile/base radio, which I will use as a base radio. I have not had the time to set up the radio or antenna yet. I also purchased the gain antenna for the handheld radio's and a Tram antenna for the base radio. Wish I could be of more help. I will update when I get everything set up.

I use these to communicate with my coworker while driving semis. They worked better than the cb radio we always use sometimes we were 2 miles away talking from truck to truck both in the cabs while driving and we were both impressed with the range and quality of clarity. We probably had the worst case scenario as inside the metal and glass cabs and still talked just fine. I would highly recommend these as not the basic radios but a good middle to high end radio
