Screen Cracked
One of the screens cracked while in my back pack. Quite a few fragile items were in the pack undamaged. Very strange and the plastic screen cover appears extremely fragile.
Great Radios
I bought these to use at a car even in the mountains. The reception is clear - much better than cheap radios I've used in the past. BUT, if you want to communicate with other 2-way radios your friends buy, pay attention to the "privacy codes" or "sub-channels" (CTCSS codes): using this radio requires you to select the actual frequency rather than "sub-channel" so I found an online list of the frequencies and the channels used by popular radio brands - you can figure it out. Very good FRS compliant radios
These are very good units, the antenna is a little less than 3dB gain according to FCC docs, the actual output from the radio is 1.3 watts, or 0.3 watts (depending on channel), making for an ERP of right on the money, 2 watts. I did have to buy the Wouxun programming cable to use the software, as the bountifang generic one that I had (CH334 chip) wouldn't work for these.
They seem pretty decently durable, but I wouldn't drop them too hard though.
So far so good. These radios have a very good reach in urban environments, around a half a mile with heavy obstruction.
The usual DC/CT, and very long battery life. Seemingly over 24 hours idle.
