I have reviewed handheld radios for sometime. I don't like GMRS as there are too many morons on there, cussing, playing music and dead keying over peoples transmissions. I decided to get a pair of MURS radios as we spend most of our time in the country where VHF is better over UHF. I would like the FCC to expand MURS to a higher power and more channels in the future. As for the radios I bought... so far I am very impressed with them...
Effective in Dense Woods

I ordered the KG-805M two pack during the December 2025 sale and used the pair of handheld transceivers (HTs) over the holidays in northern Wisconsin. They performed well; good audio quality all the way out to the longest distance tried (about 1.25 miles, or 2 km) in a relatively flat, heavily wooded, and snowy area. FRS has struggled in the past in this same area.

I also had a pair of KG-805G GMRS HTs, so I was able to do a bit of a side-by-side comparison. MURS performed better when both parties were outdoors or in buildings with large windows facing one another. GMRS did better if one party was in a car. For our use case (lots of trees, people on foot or in a cabin with large windows) MURS seems marginally better.

I would be interested in comparing GMRS and MURS again in the summer; I suspect MURS will have a stronger advantage in dense summer foliage. That said, MURS has some disadvantages: power capped at 2 Watts, no repeaters, fewer frequencies, not interoperable with FRS.

The item description says "drop in chargers," but the KG-805Ms both came with batteries with USB-C ports and USC-C chargers rather than drop-in chargers. This was a welcome surprise, it's nice to avoid having more chargers cluttering things up! You don't need to use the Wouxun-supplied USB charger; I charged the batteries just fine with an Anker USB charger and a no-name USB-A to USB-C cable.

I did notice that audio sounded better on the 20.00 kHz bandwidth frequencies than on the 11.25 kHz bandwidth frequencies.

Overall, these HTs seems like a good choice for non-critical communications between people in dense woods within maybe a mile of one another.
