Our sales and support staff at Buy Two Way Radios field a lot of questions, and we strive to answer them as best we can. One of the most frequently asked questions usually comes not from customers of our business radios, but from those who are interested in our consumer radios, particularly those for ham and GMRS. The question is about the type of receiver built into a particular model. Is it superhet?
Earlier this year we published a list of radios made by TYT with superheterodyne receivers. Since the superhet question is more often asked about the radios we sell from Wouxun, we thought it would be a good idea to put one out for them as well. Which Wouxun radios have a superheterodyne receiver? Check our handy dandy chart for the answer.
The table below lists some of the Wouxun radios we carry and the type of receivers they use.

I really think the Superhet vs Direct conversion argument really is a moot point in the under $400 cost range. I've compared my KGUV8H vs my KGUV6D, KGUV7D, and several Baofeng's and there isn't any noticeable USEABLE difference. I was at a high RF environment at a repeater site and within a certain distance, they all went deaf. The KGUV6D actually became audible first as I backed away from the high RF environment, but the intermodulation distortion made it unusable. You get what you pay for and for what I want in an inexpensive HT, the KGUV8H Direct Conversion does just fine. I use the 6D / 7D's for emergency services work as they are Part 90 approved. Now if you pay for a Commercial Kenwood / Motorola / Harris, you will notice a big difference.
Please next time make a table using CSS instead of the old HTML tag. This table is useless on a small screen.
Thanks, Rick! This is useful!
Joseph, the KG-UV9G Pro and KG-UV9GX are both superhet radios, as was the original KG-UV9G.
I may be dense, but what in the table indicates superhetrodyne? Analog or digital.
Hi Richard, the last column on the right side of the table labeled "Receiver" indicates whether the radio listed in each row is superheterodyne or direct conversion.
Are the KG-UV9G and KG-UV9GX Super also?
We do not carry those models, so we aren't provided with that information.
